ADVENT Our Yes to God! by Madonna Bennett

Advent is a time for us to prepare our hearts to say “Yes” to God, as Mary did that first advent when the angel Gabriel appeared to her. Mary said yes trusting completely in the plans that God had for her. She knew there would be many hardships to endure but she chose to be obedient to the Father’s Will. Mary was able to do this because of the grace that God had given her.
As Mary was chosen by God to be part of His plan, so are we. For in Jeremiah 29:11 it says” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
May this advent season be a time for us to seek God’s plan for our lives. To help us prepare to make room for Jesus, in our hearts. Let us respond to God with a “Yes” like Mary did, for we too are blessed with God’s graces.
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices
in God my Saviour, for he has looked with favour
on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now
on all generations will call me blessed; for the
Mighty One has done great things for me, and
holy is his name. His mercy is for those who
fear him from generation to generation. He
has shown strength with his arm; he has
scattered the proud in the thoughts of their
hearts. He has brought down the powerful
from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has
filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich
away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in
remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise
he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his
descendants for ever.” Luke 1:46-55
